Free kayak trips on Newtown Creek. No experience needed!
Viaje en kayaks gratis en Newtown Creek. ¡No se necesita experiencia!
Hunters Point Parks Conservancy is partnering with the North Brooklyn Community Boathouse for our first free public paddle event from the new Queens Landing Boathouse and Environmental Center.
Public Paddles are the heart of North Brooklyn Community Boathouse, a chance to show the community that the waters belong to all of us and to help our friends and neighbors find the same joy in paddling that we all know.
Trips are 20 minutes long and will use sit-on-top kayaks which seat 1 or 2 people.
There is a minimum height requirement of 4'10" in order to ensure the kayak will remain balanced.
Please keep in mind, you will get wet!
The event runs from 10:45am - 3pm. Please arrive on time for your selected time slot to ensure you have time to fill out the required forms and get fitted for a life vest.
Registration is required for this Public Paddle. Register on Eventbrite. Walk up participants may be accommodated, but cannot be guaranteed. We suggest coming early if you haven’t preregistered.

What to Wear & Bring
Life jackets (personal flotation devices or PFDs) will be provided and must be worn by all paddlers. Kayaks are low to the water so dress for getting wet. Quick-dry clothes are recommended since cotton gets heavy and chilly in cold temperatures when wet. Depending on the weather, you might want to bring protective clothes (windbreaker, rain jacket, fleece, etc.) in a dry bag. There is a public bathroom next to the boathouse if you'd prefer to change after going on the water.
Wear old sneakers, swim shoes, or sports sandals
Sunscreen
Waterproof case for your phone (or leave it on land)
