Our Programs

Since 2014, the Hunters Point Parks Conservancy has been hosting free public events in Hunter’s Point South Park, bringing tens of thousands of friends and neighbors out to enjoy fun activities in a beautiful setting. Below are some of our program highlights from past years. This only scratches the surface of what happens on the LIC waterfront!

In the summer months, there is something going on nearly every day of the week. You can find out what is happening in the park by viewing our calendar of events, signing up for our newsletter, or following us on Facebook. We moved many of our programs online in 2020, and were so thrilled to be able to bring many of them back out into the park in 2021.

Sponsorship packages are available for many of our programs. Email jessica@hunterspointparks.org for more information.

Please Note: All HPPC in-park programs are permitted through the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation. If you are interested in learning more about the process for planning events in Hunter’s Point South Park or Gantry Plaza State Park, please read this overview document.

The Conservancy’s first ever free event in the Hunter’s Point South Park was a 2014 screening of Julie & Julia and since then our CinemaLIC movie series has become a flagship program. Sponsored by Nest Seekers International, these movie nights bring out hundreds of people of all ages to the park. Each year we show five family-friendly movies on the large inflatable screen, with the NYC skyline as a backdrop.

Past films screened have included The Wizard of OZ, Ratatouille, Sing, Dirty Dancing, Mary Poppins Returns, Crazy Rich Asians, Finding Dory, Sleepless in Seattle, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and many more.

HPPC's signature movie series, CinemaLIC, is returning to Hunter's Point South Park for the 8th season in 2022 on Thursday, July 14th with Black Panther! We will also have film screenings on August 6 (Skyfall), August 27 (Ghostbusters: Afterlife) and September 9th (Encanto). The movies will begin at sundown.

Hunter’s Point South Park is a flagship location for the Queensboro Dance Festival. From May to October every year, the Queensboro Dance Festival (QDF) presents a diverse range of Queens-based companies tour throughout Queens, engaging neighborhoods and neighbors. Their mission is to strengthen the dance community in Queens, and garner a greater appreciation for Queens dance.

HPPC hosts the dance festival for a weekend every August that features around 15 dance troupes and brings out hundreds of spectators. In addition we have worked with the QDF to hold free family dance classes in varied disciplines - from Hip-Hop to Irish to Indian classical dance.

Watercolors on the Waterfront

For several summers in a row HPPC has been working with local artist Donna Levinstone to run “Watercolors on the Waterfront”, currently being held at the picnic tables next to the Park Ranger Station in Gantry Plaza State Park (Center Blvd. & 47th Rd.).

This is a family-friendly event for all ages where participants can unleash their inner artist and enjoy stunning sunset views while painting the famous NYC skyline or whatever else their heart desires!

The 2022 watercolor program is back in Gantry Plaza State Park on select Wednesdays! Please visit our calendar and sign up for our weekly newsletter for more information on other upcoming events.
