Wetland Shadows

  • Queens Landing Boathouse and Environmental Center 57-28 2nd St Unit 105 Long Island City, NY 11101 (map)

Please join us on December 2nd from 5:30 to 7:30 for a special presentation f Wetland Shadows, a public art project exploring the history of Hunter’s Point, Queens. Wetland Shadows tells the tumultuous story of the New York waterfront in microcosm. Artists Nathan Kensinger and Nate Dorr have been documenting the neighborhood's coastline for the past fifteen years, and now present two new site-specific video installations at the Hunter’s Point South Kayak Launch and the Queens Landing Environmental Center.

Wetland Shadows spans hundreds of years, from the original marshlands of the Newtown Creek to the newly constructed wetlands of Hunter's Point South Park, and layers the unseen past of industrialization, wild forests, artist interventions, and real estate development onto the coastline's new seawalls, towers, and promontories. Wetland Shadows is supported by a New York State Council For the Arts Grant, and by UnionDocs, a Queens-based documentary arts organization.
