Gantry Plaza State Park's fishing clinics are back! But they will be a little bit different this year, so please bear with us and read the fine print!
What to Expect:
Come learn about who and what lives beneath the surface of the East River. Help us collect valuable data for the East River Fish Project through a free catch and release fishing program! During this 45 minute program, you will learn the basics of rod and reel fishing and water quality testing, as well as how the two can go hand-in-hand to support fish conservation in the East River. Advance registration is required.
How to Register:
Programs will take place in 45 minute sessions on select Saturdays in October between 10am and 5pm.
We can support a maximum of 10 people per 45 minute session. 1 ticket = 1 person (1 ticket does NOT = 1 rod). Please reserve as many tickets as there are people in your group (not how many rods you plan to use). We will reserve one rod per person.
All children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. There needs to be at least one person in your group over the age of 18.
In order to allow space for as many participants as possible during our limited program times, we ask that you please only reserve 1 session per date for your group. The session you reserve will take place during the corresponding timeframe on the reservation page.
Where to Go and What to Bring:
Advance Registration is required to participate.
All fishing equipment and hand sanitizer will be provided.
We will meet at Pier 4 (by the intersection of Center Blvd and 50th Ave). Please arrive at least 5 minutes before your session start time.
Face coverings and marine fishing licenses will be required to enter.
We encourage you to bring your own water, sunscreen, and a jacket, as it can be sunny, cool, and windy out on the pier.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Since NYSDEC has suspended free sportfishing clinic permits until 2021, participants over the age of 16 MUST join the FREE marine fishing registry to receive their marine fishing license prior to the program. Please bring a copy of the license with you to the program (a digital version or screenshot will do).
Safety Guidelines:
We will conduct all clinics following strict Covid-19 safety guidelines, which means that all groups will remain at least 6 feet apart and all equipment will be properly sanitized between sessions. Proper face coverings will be required to enter and must be worn when safe social distance cannot be maintained.
