Nature Journaling Session 3: Birds

  • Gantry Plaza State Park Long Island City (map)

Nature Journaling focuses on the appreciation of nature. Anyone with a love of nature can participate; no experience is necessary. All you need is paper, a pencil and your curiosity.

Session 3: Birds. Learn the basics of how to approach sketching native and migratory birds

You'll hear all about migration, including what you can do to help birds overcome the challenges they face. Bring your favorite art supplies or use those provided as we practice drawing birds by taking a glimpse at their fascinating anatomy. Scientific illustrator, Monica Schroeder, will guide you through a few simple exercises and give you tips for your nature journaling practice.

Suggested supplies:

  • Art paper or artist notebook, any size you prefer

  • Drawing pencil - 2B & 2H

  • Blue non-photo pencil

  • Colored pencils or a travel watercolor kit

The class is recommended for teens and adults.
